Sequestration is a real concern for military families and their communities, like Fort Knox, Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today issued the following statement on the release of the Office of Management and Budget’s report on the Sequestration Transparency Act of 2012. “These cuts will be the direct result of the Administration’s unwillingness to compromise on the spending reductions required by the Budget Control Act (BCA). Our country is facing tremendous challenges abroad. This report outlines how our national defense would be seriously weakened. “Our military is comprised of some of our nation’s best and bravest. It is crucial that we give them the proper resources so they can defend our freedoms to the best of their ability.” ------------- President Obama signed the Sequester Transparency Act (H.R. 5837) on August 7, 2012. This bill required him to submit a report to Congress within 30 days detailing the across-the-board cuts that his Administration would make to our military to comply with the BCA. House Republicans have passed multiple bills to replace the sequester with common sense cuts that won’t hinder our military and national security, including the Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act of 2012 (H.R. 5652). To date, the Senate has not passed any similar measures.
