Washington, DC – Congressman Brett Guthrie welcomed an Honor Flight fly-in for World War II veterans held at the World War II Memorial in commemoration of the sixty-eighth anniversary of the D-Day Normandy Invasion. Guthrie met with World War II veterans from all across the Commonwealth who came to the memorial on the National Mall built in their honor.

“It’s been sixty-eight years since D-Day and our country is still as proud of these men as they were during the War. Much has changed since 1944 but the debt we owe these men is larger than ever. Freedom is not free. Many of these men’s friends did not come home. Their sacrifice is remembered and honored here at the World War II Memorial. I’m proud to welcome these distinguished Kentuckians to Washington, DC, and hope that their heroism will never be forgotten.”

Honor Flight is a non-profit organization that brings veterans to the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC free of charge.
