Washington, DC– Today Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) voted to fund the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for Fiscal Year 2017. One of Congress’ primary constitutional responsibilities is protecting our nation through funding our common defense. “The House’s funding of our nation’s military and related programs reverses some of the most harmful effects of sequestration. It is important that we provide robust funding with strong oversight so that every dollar spent can best serve our troops who put their own lives on the line to protect the American people,” said Congressman Guthrie. H.R. 5293, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2017, provides funding for DoD to ensure our troops are properly trained and equipped, our defense technology remains on the cutting edge, our troops receive the best possible support and services, and there is robust oversight and transparency of the use of taxpayer dollars. “As our nation is facing continuing and growing threats to our security and values from terrorist groups such as ISIS, it is paramount that our troops have all the resources that they need to defend our country,” added Congressman Guthrie. ### |
