Guthrie Votes to Support Troops, Strengthen National Security

Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today applauded the House passage of the Fiscal Year 2019 Defense Appropriations Bill.

“Today I voted in support of our troops at Fort Knox and those stationed around the country and world,” said Guthrie.“The Defense Appropriations Bill gives our troops a 2.6 percent pay raise, the largest pay raise in nine years, and it bolsters health care for our troops, with $34 billion going towards service members’ and their families’ health care as well as advanced medical research. In an age of increased threats around the world, we must make sure our military is fully funded and has the resources it needs to protect our country. One of the most urgent needs we’ve heard is for updating equipment and training, and this bill addresses the needs laid out by the Trump administration. I was proud to support this bipartisan legislation, and I urge the Senate to vote on this bill as soon as possible.”

The House also voted to go to conference on the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which would allow members of the House and Senate to work together on final legislation to authorize Department of Defense programming for the remainder of the fiscal year.
