Guthrie: Veterans Deserve Nothing but the Best

Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) this week voted for three bills to improve access to care and benefits for veterans.

“Veterans deserve nothing but the best care we can offer, which is what they have earned through their service,” said Guthrie. “Unfortunately, the last several years have been marked by scandal at the Department of Veterans Affairs. This week, the House acted on legislation to help fix some of the problems that have faced the VA. By allowing the VA to hire the best doctors to take care of our veterans and to better manage personnel across the department, veterans would be better able to receive the care and benefits that they have earned.”

The House passed the following bills this week:

·        The VA Accountability First Act of 2017 (H.R.1259), which would provide the VA Secretary increased flexibility to remove, demote, or suspend VA employees for misconduct.

·        H.R.1367, a bill to improve the VA Secretary’s ability to hire and retain physicians.

·        The Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act (H.R.1181), which would prohibit the VA from preventing veterans from exercising their Second Amendment rights.
