Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement regarding President Trump’s executive order entitled “Protecting The Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry To The United States:” “Throughout his campaign President Trump focused on protecting our nation from the threat of terrorism, and the recent executive order on refugee resettlement and visa-issuance programs is an outgrowth of those promises. The order temporarily suspends entry into the U.S. for certain foreign nationals while national security officials review current vetting processes to ensure terrorists are screened out. In 2015, I joined a majority of my House colleagues in supporting legislation to establish a stronger vetting process for refugees coming from countries where ISIS has established a foothold. I understand the implementation of the executive order has created some confusion, so I look forward to working with my colleagues and the administration to chart the best way forward and provide clarity as we work hard to keep Americans safe.” For more information on the executive order and its implementation, please visit the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.
