Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie today issued the following statement after visiting Fort Knox: “I recently sent a letter to Secretary Hagel asking for a more detailed analysis of the Administration’s decision to deactivate the 3/1. I await Secretary Hagel’s response and am hopeful that he and General Odierno will accompany me on a visit of Fort Knox in the near future so they can see first-hand how important this unique facility is. “Earlier today I met with senior leaders at Fort Knox and the CORE Committee. I shared my concerns, as well as notified these individuals of my letter to Secretary Hagel. “There is no doubt that Administration’s decision will have a broad impact on the base and the entire region. The 2005 BRAC study showed Fort Knox was among the most cost-effective bases in the United States. Considering this effort was cost-motivated, targeting one of the most cost-efficient bases in the country does not make sense to me.” --------------------------------------- You can view a copy of the 2005 BRAC study here (pages 63-64) and the letter from Congressman Guthrie to Secretary Hagel here.
