Guthrie Continues to Oppose President Obama's Legally Questionable Executive Actions on Immigration

I was elected to hold this Administration accountable and I could not support a bill that does not fulfill our promise in December, and address President Obama's colossal overreach on immigration, said Congressman Guthrie.

Washington, DCToday, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) issued the following statement after voting against the Senate measure to fund the Department of Homeland Security through the fiscal year, which failed to include provisions to stop the president’s executive actions on immigration:

“When the House passed legislation in December (2014) to fund most government programs through September 2015, we took action to only fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through February in an effort to have a serious discussion about President Obama’s executive actions on immigration.  In early January, the House passed a measure to fully fund DHS and included provisions to denounce and defund the president’s immigration actions.

“Senate Democrats continued to stonewall, refusing to negotiate with the assumption that the House would cede to their position.  This is not how people expect Congress to operate.  I was elected to hold this Administration accountable and I could not support a bill that does not fulfil our promise in December, and address President Obama’s colossal overreach on immigration.

“DHS is an important agency that funds many crucial services, but we must stand our ground against efforts to radically alter our immigration system.”
