Guthrie joins all Americans in honoring Sgt. Dakota Meyer

Washington, DC – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) attended the Medal of Honor Ceremony at the White House today, Thursday, September 15, 2011, with President Obama in honor of Sergeant Dakota Meyer, U.S. Marine Corps.

Sgt. Meyer, a Green County, Ky. native, received the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions while serving as a member of the Marine Embedded Training Team 2-8, Regional Corps Advisory Command in Kunar Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

“I was deeply honored to be present with the entire Kentucky delegation for the ceremony today. His story is incredible and all Kentuckians should be extremely proud. We owe our freedom to exceptional soldiers, like Sgt. Meyer, whose bravery and heroism, and the bravery of those who he fought alongside of, will forever be remembered and appreciated,” Congressman Guthrie said.

Congressman Guthrie will be on Greensburg on Saturday at a ceremony for Sgt. Meyer where he will present him with a tribute printed in the official Congressional Record.
