WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House Energy and Commerce Committee today approved five bills introduced by Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02).

Ranging from energy efficiency to health care to telecommunications, these five bipartisan bills introduced by Guthrie will now be sent the House floor for a vote by the full U.S. House of Representatives.

“I am proud to serve on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has the broadest jurisdiction of any authorizing committee in Congress and covers a number of issues that affect Kentuckians’ lives every day,” said Guthrie. “We are living in unprecedented times, but today’s bipartisan markup is proof that we can come together to address issues for the American people.”

The Utilizing Strategic Allied (USA) Telecommunications Act will promote and accelerate the deployment of 5G networks in the United States.

“With so many people learning and working from home, having trustworthy, speedy networks is important, and 5G technology will help us get there,” said Guthrie. “The USA Telecommunications Act will encourage technology competition and 5G throughout the United States, which is especially crucial for rural areas.”

The committee approved three Guthrie health care bills:  National Centers of Excellence in Continuous Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Act (H.R. 4866), MODERN Labeling Act (H.R. 5668), and the Safeguarding Therapeutics Act (H.R. 5663).

“Health care is at the forefront of everyone’s mind right now with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic,” said Guthrie. “I was proud to work with my colleagues on bipartisan, commonsense improvements to our health care system that will improve our drug supply chain.”

The committee also approved Guthrie’s Ceiling Fan Improvement Act (H.R. 5758), which will improve energy efficiency standards for ceiling fans.

All five of Guthrie’s bipartisan bills were approved by the committee unanimously.
