ICYMI: Guthrie Introduces Energy Efficiency Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), top Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), chair of the committee’s Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, introduced the Ceiling Fan Improvement Act (H.R. 5758) to improve energy efficiency standards for large ceiling fans. “Technical innovation and new products will be the key to improving energy efficiency and protecting our environment for generations to come,” said Guthrie. “Large-diameter ceiling fans are energy efficient and can cool down large spaces in short amounts of time. The Ceiling Fan Improvement Act is a bipartisan, commonsense bill that will update Department of Energy’s regulations so that businesses can continue to manufacture and use large ceiling fans. We should be encouraging the invention and proliferation of energy-saving products – not hampering them with burdensome regulations.” In January 2017, the Department of Energy (DOE) finalized energy conservation standards for ceiling fans that did not take into account the different airflow dynamics of large ceiling fans. Under the current regulations, some of the most efficient large-diameter fans would have to be taken off the market in the United States. The Ceiling Fan Improvement Act will ensure large-diameter fans are properly regulated. The House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Energy Subcommittee held a hearing on the Ceiling Fan Improvement Act this week. ### |
