January 15, 2019
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) was today named the ranking member, or the top Republican, on the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. “It’s an honor to be selected as the top Republican for the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations,” said Guthrie. “Last Congress, this subcommittee addressed a number of important issues, ranging from the opioid crisis to the Zika outbreak to cybersecurity. I intend to continue this legacy of rigorous oversight to ensure Americans receive answers about important issues and to ensure we maintain transparency in the federal government and other institutions.” Guthrie has served on the Energy and Commerce Committee since 2010. From 2015 to 2018, he served as the vice chair of the committee’s Health Subcommittee. In that role, Guthrie was instrumental in combating the opioid crisis, and also worked on other health care legislation, such as his bill to help people with Alzheimer’s disease. Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (OR-02) praised Guthrie for his previous work on the committee, saying, “Congressman Guthrie has a proven track record of solving problems for Kentuckians and the rest of the country, such as his work combating the opioid crisis. I was proud to name Congressman Guthrie as the Republican Leader of this subcommittee. He’s smart, hardworking, and very capable.” Guthrie continued: “The Constitution names oversight as one of the core responsibilities of Congress, and I look forward to working with Ranking Member Walden and the rest of the committee over the next two years to carry out this constitutional duty.” More information about the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee can be found here. ### |
