Guthrie Votes to Speed up Review Process of LNG Exports

Natural gas has become an abundant resource in the United States and we should be utilizing it to its fullest potential as part of an all-of-the-above energy policy, said Congressman Guthrie.

Washington, DC– Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) voted in support of H.R. 351, the LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act.

“By increasing our liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports we will be able to bolster our domestic energy security and increase our influence abroad, all while strengthening our economy and creating jobs here at home,” said Congressman Guthrie.  “Natural gas has become an abundant resource in the United States and we should be utilizing it to its fullest potential as part of an all-of-the-above energy policy.”

Currently, outdated regulations and excessive red tape are hindering the development of LNG export terminals by unnecessarily prolonging the permitting process.  H.R. 351 will require the Department of Energy to issue a final decision on LNG facilities within 30 days of the conclusion of required environmental reviews, and streamline the appeals process by centralizing all appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the circuit in which the export facility is located.

“The House has spent the month of January working on serious bills to put forth an all-of-the-above energy agenda.  This bipartisan bill passed the House in the last Congress, and I hope it will move forward quickly to remove excessive burdens and expedite the application process for LNG facilities,” added Congressman Guthrie.
