Washington, DC– The U.S. House of Representatives today unanimously passed Congressman Brett Guthrie’s (KY-02) bipartisan bill, H.R. 3179, the Empowering Students Through Enhanced Financial Counseling Act.

“I am pleased that my bill to better educate and prepare students to make decisions to finance their college education has passed the House,” said Congressman Guthrie. “Too often students complete their college education without fully understanding their financial obligations. My bill will empower students to choose the best financing option for them and better equip them with the knowledge they need so that they know what to expect.”

H.R. 3179 improves financial aid counseling standards for students seeking federal student loans, both before they begin college and after they graduate, while tailoring counseling to each student’s unique needs.

“I am pleased that this bill passed with strong bipartisan support and am hopeful the Senate will take action on this important legislation,” added Congressman Guthrie.
