Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), chairman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development, applauded the passage of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (H.R. 2353). The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 1984 (Perkins Act) provides federal support for state and local career and technical education (CTE) programs. The Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act reauthorizes the Perkins Act and strengthens current CTE policies to better meet the needs of today’s workforce. “When traveling throughout the Second District I often meet with employers that need skilled workers to fill available, good-paying jobs. As changing technology revolutionizes our economy, it is imperative that we ensure young Americans have the opportunity to obtain the skills and training they need to compete for jobs in a 21st Century workforce,” said Guthrie. “I have seen firsthand the great work the Second District’s CTE programs are doing to help prepare our students for in-demand jobs. I was proud to support this bipartisan bill in committee, where it passed unanimously, and to vote in favor of it on the House floor.” Click here for more information from the House Committee on Education and the Workforce about the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act.
