Guthrie Votes to Bring Justice to Victims of Iranian Terror Attacks

Iran continues to prove they cannot be trusted. It is only right that we continue to enforce these important sanctions and fight for the lives and legacies of our fellow Americans, said Congressman Guthrie.
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) voted in support of H.R. 3457, the Justice for Victims of Iranian Terrorism Act, a bill he also cosponsored. “Over the last 15 years, more than 80 judgments against Iran have been handed down under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA) for acts of state-sponsored terrorism,” said Congressman Guthrie. “Iran has long been a leading state-sponsor of terrorism and particularly now that President Obama’s nuclear deal will improve Iran’s ability to obtain financing, we must fight to keep sanctions in place.” H.R. 3457 will prohibit the president from lifting any of the current sanctions against Iran until Iran proves that it has paid each federal court judgement. These judgements affect people across the country, including Kentucky. “Originally from Danville, Col. William Higgins was abducted by Hezbollah in Beirut in 1988, and ultimately tortured and killed by these Iran-backed terrorists. His family is rightfully owed $355 million in damages,” added Congressman Guthrie. “Iran continues to prove they cannot be trusted.
