Washington, DC Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement, Tuesday, November 8, 2011, on the October jobs report released last week. The unemployment rate is 9 percent and the economy created 80,000 jobs in October, meaning these new jobs are enough for less than one percent of America’s 13.9 million unemployed workers.

“The October jobs report is just another reminder that job creation must continue to be a top priority. While the House has passed over 20 bipartisan bills that would get our economy moving in the right direction and encourage businesses to hire, Senate Democrats refuse to act and the President continues to push for a jobs bill that his own party has repeatedly rejected in the Senate.

“Our solutions will empower our nation’s job creators by restoring balance and certainty to our economy through reduced taxation and reduced regulation. I hope the White House and the Senate will take the current 9 percent unemployment rate seriously and pass the House jobs plan to create an environment where businesses can grow.”
