Washington, DC – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced today, Friday, July 2, 2010, that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has declared 15 counties in the Second Congressional District eligible for agriculture emergency assistance for damage caused by the storms that hit the area starting May 1, 2010. Congressman Guthrie sent a letter in early May to the Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, requesting a prompt review for agriculture emergency assistance given the widespread damage to Kentucky's farmers and agriculture industries. Counties eligible for assistance include Barren, Breckinridge, Daviess, Edmonson, Grayson, Green, Hancock, Hardin, Hart, LaRue, Marion, Ohio, Taylor, Warren and Washington. “There are overwhelming costs associated with the damage and losses that these communities and individuals have suffered. This declaration gives much needed assistance to our farmers,” Congressman Guthrie said.
