“In President Obama’s State of the Union address tonight there was a stark contrast between the policies he put forward and those I believe will best help American families.   Sadly, tonight we heard only a hollow willingness to work with Congress and a strong desire to use his own pen to write our nation’s laws.

“Our country has spent the past five years living under the failed policies of this Administration, and tonight President Obama called for more of the same.  Instead of continuing the same unsuccessful policies of the past, we must look to new ideas to jumpstart our economy and put hardworking Americans back to work. 

“I have been a strong supporter of reauthorizing the Workforce Investment Act, which helps train employees for better jobs at higher wages and offers access to new and more advanced opportunities.  We need to focus on strengthening our workforce and offering employees the ability to build a better life for themselves and their families.

“I have also introduced a bill that would revitalize American manufacturing and stimulate our economy by addressing several major challenges that face business leaders. In addition to addressing our shortage of skilled workers, the REBUILD Act addresses tax policy, burdensome regulations, and restrictions on energy production. Packaged together, these policy fixes will stimulate manufacturing and increase our global competiveness.

“We also cannot ignore the biggest failure of the Obama Administration – the president’s health care law.  While the president touted some of Obamacare’s achievements, he failed to mention that his promises have continually been broken. If you liked your health care plan, you can’t keep it; if you liked your doctor, you can’t keep him/her; and families won’t save $2,500 a year in premiums.  The American people deserve better.  I’ve heard numerous personal stories of Kentuckians who lost their health care plans or saw their rates increase. And in Kentucky – President Obama’s success story – he failed to mention that three-fourths of enrollees are being put into Medicaid, a rate that is clearly unsustainable. Quite simply, Obamacare is not working.

“The policies of the past five years have been unsuccessful and tonight the president doubled-down on his agenda.  I believe we can still be that ‘shining city on a hill,’ but we need real leadership, not more bloated government and broken promises.”
