Guthrie: the Majority’s tax, borrow and spend agenda has done nothing but create an environment of uncertainty

Bowling Green, KYCongressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement today, Friday, September 3, 2010, after the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the national unemployment rate for August rose to 9.6 percent. Unemployment has been above nine percent for 16 consecutive months.

“After months and months of rising unemployment, the administration, along with the Majority in Congress, has to see a different direction is needed in order to get out economy back on track.

“In April, Vice President Biden said he was absolutely confident that the policies the administration, and the Majority in Congress, were putting in place were sending the economy in the right direction.

“However, the Majority’s tax, borrow and spend agenda has done nothing but create an environment of uncertainty for small business owners and restrict job creation.

“Small businesses can lead us in our recovery. Rather than tax increases on income, capital gains, dividends, and estate, we should look to lower taxes, rein in government intervention, and encourage fiscal responsibility in Washington, DC”
