WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement following Senator Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) announcement that he will step down as Senate Republican Leader at the end of the year.

“I am honored to serve with Leader McConnell representing the Commonwealth of Kentucky the last fifteen years, as well as call him a close friend and mentor. Leader McConnell is a stalwart figure representing Kentucky’s values at the highest level and bringing our Commonwealth to the forefront of discussions facing our nation. His dedicated 39 plus years in the Senate, and his historic leadership as Senate Republican Leader for the last 17 years is unmatched. I thank him for his service not just to our nation but to each of our 120 counties across Kentucky. I look forward to working with Leader McConnell throughout the rest of the 118th Congress to continue delivering for Kentucky communities across our Second District,” said Congressman Guthrie.
