BOWLING GREEN, KY – Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced the winners of the Congressional App Challenge from Kentucky’s Second District. Guthrie, along with other participating U.S. representatives, host the Congressional App Challenge annually in their respective districts. Barren County High School students Carlie Sanders, Sara Thorpe and Leah Somerville won overall first place with their app, “ACHE.” “I am proud to announce that Barren County High School students Carlie Sanders, Sara Thorpe and Leah Somerville are Kentucky’s Second District’s Congressional App Challenge winners. The Congressional App Challenge gives students the opportunity to showcase what they have learned in computer science. I am proud to host this competition each year to inspire students to advance their coding skills and their interest in computer science careers through friendly competition. The Congressional App Challenge would not be possible without the incredible students, educators, and judges from the Second District. Congratulations to all the high school and middle school students who participated in the 2023 Congressional App Challenge,” said Congressman Guthrie. Background The winners of the Congressional App Challenge were chosen by a panel of local computer science experts. The winning app, ACHE will be displayed on the U.S. House of Representatives’ website with other winning apps across the country and is eligible to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol.
