Washington, D.C. — House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Subcommittee on Health Chair Brett Guthrie (R-KY) offered the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2544, the Securing the U.S. Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network Act, unanimously: “Today, the People’s House voted to give hope to patients in need of a lifesaving organ transplant. We took one step closer to fixing the current system, which too often allows viable organs to go to waste while patients on the organ transplant list are forced to turn to costlier, lower quality health care and even face death in some cases. We thank Representatives Larry Bucshon and Robin Kelly for their leadership of this bipartisan bill and urge the Senate to take it up without delay.” Led by Rep. Bucshon (R-IN) and Rep. Kelly (D-IL), H.R. 2544 was passed out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee by a vote of 48-0 on May 24, 2023.
