WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced that Reagan Phelps has received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point). Reagan Phelps is currently a student at Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science and is the first student, who was nominated by Guthrie, to receive a service academy appointment this year. “Congratulations to Reagan Phelps on receiving an appointment to West Point. This is a hard-earned accomplishment that is a result of years of excelling in academic and extracurricular work. As a West Point graduate, I take my responsibility of nominating our future military leaders very seriously and look forward to making more announcements as I receive the notifications from service academies,” said Guthrie. Students can seek nominations to U.S. service academies from several sources, including through their U.S. Representative. To apply for a nomination to the Army, Navy, Air Force and Merchant Marine academies through Guthrie’s office, students must complete a nomination packet and submit it by the required deadline. Guthrie with the guidance of his Second District Academy Board nominates students, and then they are eligible for consideration by the service academies for an appointment. Students must also separately apply to service academies. A nomination does not guarantee an appointment, and appointments are announced on a rolling basis. ### |
