Guthrie Statement on CHIPS and Science Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement after voting against the CHIPS and Science Act.

“Many Kentuckians have seen and felt the impact of the chips shortage, and the global supply chain crisis has further highlighted vulnerabilities in our domestic semiconductor supply chain. However, the CHIPS bill that passed the House is the wrong approach to a real problem that is vital to our national and economic security. This bill tries to outspend the Chinese Communist Party on government subsidies to corporations, which could lead to even higher levels of inflation. Further, this very bill that proponents say would counter the Chinese Communist Party’s influence has ineffective guardrails to protect against U.S. taxpayer dollars going toward investments in China, and the CHIPS bill would even give companies the opportunity in some cases to take American taxpayer dollars and then invest in China’s semiconductor industry. This bill is not the right way to strengthen the semiconductor supply chain and beat China and other countries unfriendly to the U.S. in this technological race,” said Guthrie.
