WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), who is a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement after voting for the Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act, a bill to ban imports of oil and gas from Russia. “While this bill to end Russian energy imports is not perfect, the United States absolutely must not fuel Russia’s war machine against the Ukrainian people by purchasing Russian energy. We should not stop at banning imports of Russian energy. We need to be energy independent again. President Biden’s anti-energy agenda has weakened our energy independence and made us more dependent on our adversaries since his first day in office. I believe that President Biden would rather face OPEC+ nations and adversaries than environmentalists in his own party. I’m calling on President Biden to unleash American energy to strengthen our energy independence and diminish Russia’s energy leverage around the world,” said Guthrie ### |
