WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement after voting against raising the debt limit.

“I cannot support Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s efforts to raise our nation’s debt limit as Democrats pursue a reckless budget that would lead to the highest sustained federal spending levels our country has ever seen. Democrats’ reckless $3.5 trillion tax and spending spree comes as hardworking Americans are facing higher prices on everyday goods due to inflation. On top of that, Democrats are refusing to work with Republicans on curbing spending of hard-earned taxpayer money to address the national debt. Raising the debt ceiling under these conditions ahead of Senator Bernie Sanders' budget is an irresponsible proposal that would burden generations to come with new debt,” said Guthrie.
