Guthrie Praises New Kentucky Apprenticeship Entity

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), senior member of the House Education and Labor Committee and co-chair of the Congressional Apprenticeship Caucus, released the following statement on the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announcing the recognition of the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department of Workforce Investment as an approved Standards Recognition Entity (SRE).

This SRE recognition will allow the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department of Workforce Investment to assist employers in overseeing current and designating new Industry-Recognized Apprenticeship Programs (IRAP) throughout the state, while partnering with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and Kentucky Career Center.

“I’m thrilled the Department of Labor has entrusted the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department of Workforce Investment to evaluate and expand high-quality apprenticeships in numerous industries across Kentucky,” said Guthrie. “As co-chair of the Congressional Apprenticeship Caucus and member of the House Education and Labor Committee, I have continuously worked to make apprenticeships more accessible. Apprenticeships provide opportunities for hardworking Kentuckians to learn new skills that lead to high-paying jobs. With years of manufacturing experience, I know the importance of effective apprenticeship programs firsthand. This announcement for Kentucky’s workforce is welcome news as we are starting to defeat the virus with safe and effective vaccines to come back stronger than ever.”
