Guthrie Tech Bills Pass in House

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives yesterday passed three bills introduced by Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee: The Countering Online Harms Act, the Advancing Blockchain Act, and the Blockchain Innovation Act.

The Countering Online Harms Act, which would protect Americans from misinformation and illegal content,  and the Advancing Blockchain Act, which would continue our important work in blockchain, were included in the American Competitive of a More Productive Emerging Tech Economy Act, or American COMPETE Act (H.R. 8132).

“Along with my legislation, the COMPETE Act includes several bipartisan bills from my Energy and Commerce Committee colleagues all aimed at maintaining American dominance in emerging technology. The United States has always been a leader in technology – and we need to keep it that way,” said Guthrie in a speech on the House floor.

The Blockchain Innovation Act, which Congressman Guthrie introduced with Reps. Darren Soto (D-FL-09) and Doris Matsui (D-CA-05), was included in the AI for Consumer Product Safety Act (H.R. 8128).

“Emerging technologies can be a useful tool to help prevent fraud and to protect consumers,” said Guthrie. “This bipartisan package of bills will help us learn more about AI technology to better protect Americans. The Blockchain Innovation Act specifically will help us harness blockchain technology for the betterment of our consumers and our economy.”

Both the American COMPETE Act and the AI for Consumer Product Safety Act passed in the House unanimously and await passage in the U.S. Senate.
