ICYMI: Guthrie Introduces ‘COVID-19 National Service Response Act’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) and Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) last month introduced the COVID-19 National Service Response Act to help volunteers with the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) during the coronavirus outbreak.

The COVID-19 National Service Response Act will give CNCS the ability to help AmeriCorps volunteers shelter in place if they are part of a residential volunteer program, and will give volunteers the flexibility to finish their program after the coronavirus outbreak.

Over 4,200 volunteers serve in Kentucky through the Corporation for National and Community Service at 800 local service sites. More than 75,000 volunteers serve nationwide.

“Thousands of people have volunteered to serve in Kentucky,” said Guthrie. “During this time of uncertainty, we want to make sure that AmeriCorps volunteers are protected and have the ability to finish their programs when this is all over. Thank you Congressman Castro for joining me in this bipartisan, commonsense bill.”

The COVID-19 National Service Response Act was included in the CARES Act, which was signed into law on March 27, 2020.
