WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie’s (KY-02) bill to help certain Medicaid beneficiaries receive care in their homes was signed into law by President Donald Trump last week.
Guthrie introduced the EMPOWER Care Act with Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) earlier this year to extend the Medicaid Money Follows the Person (MFP) program, which allows certain Medicaid beneficiaries, such as seniors and individuals with disabilities, to transition from a nursing home or institutional care to receiving care in their own homes if they choose.
The EMPOWER Care Act was included in the Empowering Beneficiaries, Ensuring Access and Strengthening Accountability Act of 2019, which was signed into law last week. Other extensions of Guthrie’s legislation were signed into law in January and again in April.
“I am proud to announce that President Trump has signed my Medicaid bill into law,” said Guthrie. “The Medicaid Money Follows the Person Program has empowered thousands of individuals to choose to receive care in their own homes. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to improve Medicaid services for Kentuckians.”
