WASHINGTON, D.C.– Congressman Brett Guthrie today voted in support of H.R. 2009, the “Keep the IRS Off Your Health Care Act of 2013.”

“This law is bad for Kentucky and warning bells continue to ring regarding its implementation,” said Congressman Guthrie. “Employers across Kentucky continue to express their concerns about being able to afford coverage for all of their employees. Families are worried about rising premiums and the ability to keep their own doctors. As if these concerns weren’t enough, we now have to worry about the IRS – who we know has a history of targeting conservative groups - being involved in our health care.”

H.R. 2009 would prohibit the IRS from implementing or enforcing any portion of Obamacare. The vote follows recent legislation passed in the House to delay both the employer and individual mandates.

“At a time when many are rightfully skeptical of the IRS and other government overreaches, the last thing we need is bigger government and having that government more deeply involved in the most personal part of our country – an individual’s health care. Obamacare expands the government reach in the health care system while weakening the important doctor-patient relationship. This is a dangerous combination that must be stopped. This legislation must move forward until Obamacare can be repealed in full.”
