Washington, DC – Congressman Brett Guthrie joined his Kentucky delegation colleagues in sending a letter to President Barack Obama supporting Governor Steve Beshear's request for federal disaster assistance in response to the flooding and damage that resulted from the storms that hit the Commonwealth beginning May 1.
Washington, DC — Congressman Brett Guthrie joined his Kentucky delegation colleagues in sending a letter to President Barack Obama supporting Governor Steve Beshear’s request for federal disaster assistance in response to the flooding and damage that resulted from the storms that hit the Commonwealth beginning May 1.
“The storms that hit the area and subsequent flooding have been unprecedented. I was sad to learn of the lives that have been lost, as well as the families who have seen property loss and other devastation.
“As we all learned from the 2009 ice storm, a federal disaster declaration gives local communities financial assistance with the overwhelming costs associated with cleanup and repair. The declaration could also lead to assistance for those who have lost homes and businesses as a result of the disaster.
“As cleanup is ongoing, I will continue to work with local officials, my colleagues, and Governor Beshear to ensure that Kentuckians are given some assistance during this difficult time.”
