Washington, DC– Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) voted in support of reconciliation instructions that would reduce the deficit by $516 billion, while dismantling Obamacare and protecting life.

“I hear overwhelmingly from Kentuckians who are concerned with Obamacare and the impact it has on businesses and families. For the first time we are able to send a bill repealing Obamacare’s most egregious policies and defunding Planned Parenthood to the president’s desk.  He now has to choose whether to offer relief to those struggling with Obamacare’s mandates or continue to defend a broken and ill-conceived law.”

In October, the House passed a reconciliation bill that included a repeal of the Individual Mandate, the Employer Mandate, the Medical Device Tax, the “Cadillac Tax,” the Obamacare Slush Fund and the Auto-Enrollment Mandate.  The House bill also defunded abortion providers and instead invested in community health centers.  In December, the Senate passed the bill and added language phasing out the Medicaid expansion, eliminating premium tax credits and taxes on health savings accounts, and investing additional funds to help states address mental health and substance abuse.

“Obamacare’s ‘one size fits all’ approach is not the answer.  My colleagues and I plan to work diligently in the coming year to put forward positive reforms to our health care system that empower patients, reduce costs, and improve access to quality care.”
