Guthrie Supports Legislation to Prevent Veteran Suicides

H.R. 203 will increase both the availability and accessibility of VA services, while also bolstering community support for veterans by establishing a pilot program to assist service members in accessing local care services.

Washington, DC– Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) voted in support of H.R. 203, the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans (Clay Hunt SAV) Act.

“In recent military conflicts we have sadly seen a sharp growth in mental health issues and suicide amongst our nation’s returning heroes,” said Congressman Guthrie.  “This bill brings more attention and services to suicide prevention, and will improve overall mental health care for veterans.”

H.R. 203 will increase both the availability and accessibility of VA services, while also bolstering community support for veterans by establishing a pilot program to assist service members in accessing local care services.  With Congressman Guthrie’s support, the House passed this bipartisan legislation in the last Congress.

“Approximately 22 veterans commit suicide each day.  H.R. 203 is a key tool in reforming our VA facilities and assisting these brave men and women when they need it most,” added Congressman Guthrie.
