Guthrie Votes to Bring Transparency to Regulatory Process, Empower Small Businesses and Local Leaders

I've seen firsthand that excessive regulation stunts job growth. Along with a shortage of highly skilled workers, burdensome red tape is a top concern when I hear from manufacturers and other business leaders about what stands in their way when they're working hard to create new jobs. It's time Washington focuses on empowering our job creators, and these bills are important steps, said Congressman Guthrie.

Washington, DC– This week, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) voted in support of two measures that will provide greater transparency to the federal regulatory process and lessen the impact federal regulations have on small businesses and local governments.

H.R. 50, the Unfunded Mandates Information and Transparency Act,  provides for more comprehensive cost estimates of federal regulatory mandates, and will ensure that state and local governments as well as the private sector are consulted during their development.  H.R. 527, the Small Business Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act of 2015 will require federal agencies to consider the direct and indirect economic impacts that proposed rules have on small businesses.

“This Administration has issued seemingly endless regulations that weigh down job creators,” said Congressman Guthrie.  “By increasing transparency in the regulatory process, government officials and small business owners can have a better understanding of what is required and what is not – instead of wasting precious resources.”

“We need less government, not more.  I’ve seen firsthand that excessive regulation stunts job growth.  Along with a shortage of highly skilled workers, burdensome red tape is a top concern when I hear from manufacturers and other business leaders about what stands in their way when they’re working hard to create new jobs.  It’s time Washington focuses on empowering our job creators, and these bills are important steps,” added Congressman Guthrie.
