Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie today voted in support of H.R. 4031, the “Department of Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act of 2014.” Congressman Guthrie is also a cosponsor of this legislation. “It’s become clear that the VA is not living up to its duty to care for America’s veterans, including recent promises to take care of the backlog problem,” said Congressman Guthrie. “We must take all the steps necessary to help prevent future instances of neglect and abuse, and to ensure that all veterans receive the care they have earned and deserve.” Introduced in response to the faulty care being provided in VA facilities across the country, and to put teeth into accountability standards for abusive and neglectful employees, H.R. 4031 would allow the secretary of the VA to fire underperforming managers. “These brave men and women have served our country and defended our freedoms. They deserve the best care at each and every facility. As the national audit of all VA facilities begins, H.R. 4031 is a tool that should be used to ensure that only those individuals capable of providing the best care are in the position to do so," said Congressman Guthrie. “I will continue to stay engaged in this evolving situation, and support future legislation to determine how we can best hold the Department of Veterans Affairs accountable for these terrible circumstances,” added Congressman Guthrie. ### |
