Guthrie Supports Amendments to Defund Obama's Executive Amnesty, Bill to Fund Homeland Security Operations

Included in the primary text of the bill is funding for many important agencies that keep our nation safe and secure, including: Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Coast Guard, the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) and the U.S. Secret Service. Amendments to H.R. 240 were also included in direct response to President Obama's unconstitutional executive overreach on immigration.

Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie today voted in support of H.R. 240, the FY2015 Homeland Security Appropriations bill.

Included in the primary text of the bill is funding for many important agencies that keep our nation safe and secure, including: Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Coast Guard, the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) and the U.S. Secret Service.

Funding for Customs and Border Protection is increased, providing for the largest operational force in history to protect and defend our nation’s borders.  The bill also fully funds E-verify, a system that verifies citizenship status for job applicants.  Amendments to H.R. 240 were also included in direct response to President Obama’s unconstitutional executive overreach on immigration.

“Reforming our nation’s broken immigration system has been a primary concern for many Americans,” said Congressman Guthrie.  “But the president acted irresponsibly when he circumvented Congress.  He does not have the power to re-write our nation’s laws and today the House is acting to stop his executive amnesty.”

Congressman Guthrie supported a number of amendments to the bill to strengthen our immigration laws, including one amendment to prevent funds from being used to carry out the president’s executive actions issued in November.

In addition, Congressman Guthrie supported an amendment expressing the sense of Congress that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services should not put the interest of unlawful immigrants ahead of legal immigrants.

“It is encouraging to see that the American Dream is still alive, but our country’s laws must be followed,” said Congressman Guthrie.
