Guthrie Supports Legislation to Lower Gasoline Prices, Boost American Energy Initiatives

Congressman Brett Guthrie today voted in support of a series of bills to boost our American energy sector and help lower energy costs for consumers by taking full advantage of our abundant natural resources.

Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie today voted in support of a series of bills to boost our American energy sector and help lower energy costs for consumers by taking full advantage of our abundant natural resources.

“At a time when ‘pain at the pump’ is being felt across the entire country, H.R. 4899 will harness the energy advantage provided by the oil and natural gas resources we have right here in the United States,” said Congressman Guthrie. “Higher gasoline prices hit Kentuckians beyond the pump – they are felt when grocery shopping and even when making hiring decisions at local businesses.”

H.R. 4899, the Lowering Gasoline Prices to Fuel an America That Works Act of 2014 increases both our offshore and onshore energy production, in a safe and responsible way.

In addition to H.R. 4899, the House of Representatives passed two additional energy bills with Congressman Guthrie’s support: H.R. 3301, the North American Energy Infrastructure Act and H.R. 6, the Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act.

H.R. 3301 would create a more modern and efficient cross-border approval process for all oil and natural gas pipelines, as well as electric transmission lines. By doing so, greater certainty can be injected into the regulatory process, and the door will be opened to updating our energy infrastructure to meet 21st Century needs. H.R. 6 will expedite exports of U.S. liquefied natural gas, and by doing so bring more certainty to the Department of Energy’s export approval process, provide a counterweight to Russia’s influence over Europe and stimulate the domestic economy by creating jobs to meet increased demand.

“We cannot afford to pick and choose when it comes to energy initiatives. House Republicans continue to advance an all-of-the-above energy agenda.  These bills will push our country forward on the path to energy independence and ensure that we protect the wallets of hard working Americans,” added Congressman Guthrie.
