Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), vice chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee, this week introduced legislation (H.R. 6042) to make the implementation of the Medicaid Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) system easier for states to adopt. The EVV system provides accountability to ensure that patients receiving home services get the services they need.

Last Congress, the Energy and Commerce Committee passed the bipartisan 21^st Century Cures Act, which required state Medicaid programs to use EVV to track all personal care services conducted in a patient’s home. Feedback from Medicaid programs has indicated that the programs need more time to fully integrate EVV technology. Guthrie’s bill would delay the implementation of the EVV system by one year, allowing states the proper amount of time to set up their systems, which will help to protect the most vulnerable Medicaid recipients.

“I was proud to work with my colleagues to craft the 21^st Century Cures Act, a monumental and transformative bill,” said Guthrie. “One thing we wanted to include was accountability in the Medicaid program through the EVV system. Home visits are a crucial part of providing care to patients, many of whom have disabilities. My bill will make sure that this important provision is implemented properly, instead of being rushed. I look forward to seeing the EVV system totally integrated into our Medicaid system.”
