Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today voted in support of H.R. 6233, the "Agricultural Disaster Assistance Act of 2012."
Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today voted in support of H.R. 6233, the “Agricultural Disaster Assistance Act of 2012.” “Farmers in Kentucky and across the entire U.S. are facing incredible economic losses due to the combination of unprecedented drought and storms,” said Congressman Guthrie. H.R. 6233 would provide funding that was previously allocated in the farm bill for agriculture disasters by retroactively reauthorizing expired disaster assistance programs for fiscal years 2012 and 2013. Specifically, it would reauthorize expired emergency disaster programs for livestock producers, as well as fish, tree, honey bee and nursery plant producers. Aid would be available for losses incurred as a result of either weather or environmental disasters. “While I am disappointed this vote was not on a long-term farm bill, I recognize that immediate disaster assistance is something that so many of our farmers urgently need. I look forward to working with my colleagues in September to help produce a long-term farm bill that will restore certainty across our nation’s farms,” added Congressman Guthrie. ### |
