Guthrie Announces West Point, Naval Academy Appointments
Washington, DC,
January 25, 2017
Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today announced the appointments of Fort Knox student Matthew Rivera to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and Bowling Green student Riley Hogan to the U.S. Naval Academy. “As a West Point graduate myself, it was an honor to nominate Second District constituents for appointments to our nation’s Service Academies,” said Guthrie. “I was thrilled to be able to break the news to Riley and Matthew about their appointments. These students have excelled academically and have proven to be strong leaders. I know that should they choose to accept their appointments, they will serve our country admirably.” Each year, Guthrie, along with guidance from the Second District Academy Board, nominates a limited number of high-achieving students to our nation’s Army, Navy, Air Force, and Merchant Marine Academies. Once nominations are made, each service academy determines who will receive an offer of appointment based on a competitive vetting process. The service academies announce appointments on a rolling basis. Details about the students’ appointments are included below. Guthrie will announce any additional appointments as they are made over the coming months.
