Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today announced Heather Decker of Bardstown as the First Place winner for Kentucky’s Second District in the 2014 Congressional Art Competition. Decker, a student at Nelson County High School, titled her artwork “Nature’s Gift.” Created with water colors, Decker describes her work as “A blue bird clasped to a spine with scoliosis, covered in flowers.” “I would like to congratulate Heather on this beautiful work of art,” said Congressman Guthrie. “As in years past, we received artwork from many talented students and Heather should be very proud of her work. I look forward to welcoming Heather to Washington and having her outstanding artwork on display in the U.S. Capitol Building.” The winner and all other finalists/honorable mentions were selected by a panel of art teachers across Kentucky’s Second District. ---------------------------------- The Congressional Art Competition, which began in 1982, allows the winning pieces of art to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one full year.
