Washington, DC,
April 4, 2016
Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced today that three students from Kentucky’s Second District, Michael Graves, Brycen Lacey, and James “Luke” Rice, have been offered admission to two of our nation’s service academies. Congressman Guthrie stated, “It was a great honor to break the news to Michael, Brycen, and Luke about their appointments. I am proud to see motivated students from the Second District offered the opportunity to pursue their dreams at such prestigious institutions. These students have strived and excelled in academics, leadership, and athletics with the goal of obtaining a great education along with military experience.” Each year Congressman Guthrie, with guidance from the Second District Academy Board, nominates a limited number of high-achieving and well-rounded students to our nation’s service academies – the Army, Navy, Air Force and Merchant Marine academies. Once nominations are made, each service academy determines who will receive an appointment through a rigorous and competitive application process. The service academies announce appointments on a rolling basis. “As a West Point graduate myself, I take great pride and excitement in the academy nomination and appointment process. I am always encouraged by the high number of impressive applications my office receives for a nomination to the service academies,” added Congressman Guthrie. Details about the students’ appointments are included below in alphabetical order by last name. Over the course of the next few months, Congressman Guthrie will announce any additional appointments.
