Congressmen Guthrie and Murphy Lead Bipartisan Letter on Medicare Advantage

Washington, DC– Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) and Congressman Patrick E. Murphy (FL-18) led a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in anticipation of their 2017 Advance Notice and Draft Call Letter for Medicare Advantage (MA) and Part D. The letter urged CMS to ensure that their policies for the coming year keep MA affordable and available to its 17 million beneficiaries.

“I am glad to see such strong bipartisan support in calling for CMS to not cut this important program and to support this health care option that is clearly working,” remarked Congressman Guthrie. “My colleagues and I on both sides of the aisle hear first-hand about how MA has been helping our constituents who have unique needs that are being met by the program.  I am hopeful that our efforts will protect this valuable choice for seniors.”

“With over a million Floridians relying on Medicare Advantage for their health care coverage, any cuts to this important program would have very real and devastating consequences for our seniors by cutting services, limiting options, and driving up health care costs,” said Congressman Murphy.  “Since my first days in office, I have been proud to lead bipartisan efforts to protect the health care Florida seniors depend on – whether traditional Medicare or Medicare Advantage – and I am hopeful that with this strong support from both Democrats and Republicans, we will continue to be successful in fighting off excessive cuts.”

Medicare Advantage offers additional choices for the elderly and individuals with disabilities to receive high-quality care tailored to their health needs. This patient-centered approach that has been working for millions of Americans should be protected for those who rely on it.

“I hope that the Administration will join Republicans and Democrats in the House in protecting some of the most vulnerable in our society,” added Congressman Guthrie.
