Guthrie Supports Bipartisan Budget Agreement That Reduces Deficit

Today, Congress voted to reduce the deficit without raising taxes on Kentucky families. I continue to hear from people who are tired of Congress lurching from one flashpoint to the next, failing to work together to improve America's economy. I know I am tired of it, and today's vote moves us toward that objective.

Washington, DCCongressman Brett Guthrie today issued the following statement after voting in support of the Bipartisan Budget Agreement of 2013:

“Passing a budget is the basic job of Congress, and something that is long overdue after the past few years of partisan bickering and governing by crisis.  Today, Congress voted to reduce the deficit without raising taxes on Kentucky families. I continue to hear from people who are tired of Congress lurching from one flashpoint to the next, failing to work together to improve America’s economy. I know I am tired of it, and today’s vote moves us toward that objective.

“We have divided government and that usually means not everyone gets everything they want, and that’s true today. I want further reductions in spending and meaningful entitlement and tax reform. This deal reduces the deficit, holds the line against tax increases, and protects against the repeated brinkmanship with which we have become all too familiar.  I commend Chairman Ryan for his leadership on this effort and look forward to tackling more of our nation’s pressing issues in the coming months.”
