Guthrie: The House must continue its oversight duties

The House is currently exercising its oversight role and investigating the practices of Planned Parenthood following the release of multiple videos detailing graphic and disturbing procedures. Planned Parenthood should not receive any additional federal dollars until we have the opportunity to look into these allegations further, said Congressman Guthrie.

Washington, DCCongressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) issued the following statement after voting against the Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government through December 11, 2015, which failed to include text to defund Planned Parenthood:

“The House is currently exercising its oversight role and investigating the practices of Planned Parenthood following the release of multiple videos detailing graphic and disturbing procedures.  Planned Parenthood should not receive any additional federal dollars until we have the opportunity to look into these allegations further.”

Congressman Guthrie has repeatedly voted to restrict federal funding for Planned Parenthood.  Additionally, Congressman Guthrie was a cosponsor of the Defund Planned Parenthood Act and has a 100 percent rating from the National Right to Life.

Earlier this week, Congressman Guthrie voted in support of H.R. 3495, the Women’s Public Health and Safety Act.  H.R. 3495 will increase flexibility for states to exclude abortion providers from their Medicaid programs.
