Guthrie Named Vice Chair of Health Subcommittee

I'm pleased that Congressman Guthrie will serve as the Health Subcommittee's Vice Chair, said Chairman Fred Upton (MI-06). "I've seen firsthand Brett's hard work on the committee and I am confident he will be a strong leader in the committee's aggressive agenda in the coming Congress."

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) was named Vice Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee.

“I’d like to thank Chairman Upton for appointing me to this new post and I look forward to hitting the ground running,” said Congressman Guthrie.  “Next year, health care will be a central focus of the agenda and I’m looking forward to continuing my work on the Energy and Commerce Committee in this new capacity.”

“Next year is going to be especially busy for the Health Subcommittee and I’m glad that we’ll have Congressman Guthrie helping to lead the charge,” said Subcommittee Chairman Joe Pitts (PA-16).  “We’ll be hard at work with 21st Century Cures and real health reform.  I rely on the Vice Chair to run the subcommittee, and I know Congressman Guthrie will bring great energy to the position.”

“Chairman Upton and Chairman Pitts are strong leaders on the committee and I am looking forward to working more closely with them as we continue to hold the Administration accountable, address the burdens Obamacare has placed on American families and businesses, and explore ways we can improve the regulation of treatments and cures to spur innovation and save lives,” added Congressman Guthrie.

The Subcommittee on Health has jurisdiction over Medicare, Medicaid, and public health matters, including the Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
