Guthrie Votes to Protect Medicare, Repeal IPAB

H.R. 1190 will repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), an unelected federal board that was given broad power and jurisdiction to unilaterally cut Medicare spending.

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) voted in support of H.R. 1190, the Protecting Seniors’ Access to Medicare Act of 2015.

H.R. 1190 will repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), an unelected federal board that was given broad power and jurisdiction to unilaterally cut Medicare spending.

“The IPAB is a major concern,” said Congressman Guthrie.  “Granting these individuals such sweeping power is dangerous and could have a catastrophic impact on seniors across the country.”

Experts worry that these across the board cuts will limit the care available to America’s seniors.  Medicare is already known for its low reimbursement rates, which has forced many physicians to stop accepting new Medicare patients.

“Combine already low reimbursement rates with the $700 billion Obamacare took from Medicare and then allow an unaccountable group of Washington bureaucrats to effectively ration care and you have a dangerous combination, which ultimately risks limiting patients’ access to care,” added Congressman Guthrie.
