Washington, DC – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement, Monday, December 13, 2010, after a federal judge in Virginia ruled that the individual mandate of President Obama’s health care law is unconstitutional: “This is an encouraging first-step for American families and small businesses who have said for months that certain provisions of this law are unconstitutional. “I hope President Obama and Attorney General Holder join Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli in requesting that this case be sent directly to the U.S. Supreme Court. Americans deserve swift action on this matter. “This law has created great uncertainty for families, individuals and small businesses who are concerned with the rising costs of health care. I look forward to the 112th Congress when we can work to repeal this bill and replace it with policies that address the number one issue associated with health care – lowering the cost.” Congressman Guthrie was recently appointed to serve on the Energy and Commerce Committee for the 112th Congress which has jurisdiction over health care policy. |
